Provence, France, June-July 2023
I am inviting you to join me while I explore one of the most visually stunning regions in Europe: Provence, in the south of France.
In preparation for a future tour of the area, I will be spending about a week there, scouting locations and trying to capture some great pictures.
Highlights
This is a list of locations I would like to visit. It's a very ambitious list and probably we won't be able to touch them all, but we'll try to visit as many as possible. My main objective is scouting places and my first concern is exploiting every opportunity to take pictures, so don't expect this to be a relaxing vacation. We'll be in pursuit of the perfect photo at all suitable hours.
That said, I love good food and conversation, so we'll take the necessary time to fill our bellies and enjoy the time together.
- Nice and its famous waterfront, la Promenade des Anglais
- The village of Saint Paul de Vence, with its many art galleries
- The canyon of the Gorges du Loup
- The town of Grasse
- The city of Cannes
- The charming mountain village of Seillans
- Les Gorges du Verdon, the deepest canyon in Europe
- The Parc National des Calanques
- The lavender fields of the Valensole plateau
- The village of Moustiers-Sainte-Marie
- Les Pénitents, an impressive geological formation
- The Citadel of Sisteron
- The town of Lourmarin
- The village of Roussillon and its ochre cliffs
- The abbey of Notre-Dame de Sénanque, set amongst the rows of lavender
- The medieval city of Avignon
- The remains of the Roman aqueduct and Pont de Gard
- The city of Arles, with its Roman ruins and memories of Van Gogh
- The wetlands of the Parc Naturel de la Camargue, with its marshlands, flamingos and white horses
- The seaside town of Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer
- The walled city of Aigues-Mortes
- The remarkably well-preserved Roman ruins in Nîmes

Details
This is not going to be a typical tour or a workshop. While I will take care of all of the details of the organization and planning, we won't be using expert guides and you can't count on my perfect knowledge of the place. While I've been to parts of the region several times, other locations I want to visit are almost new to me. We'll discover them together.
When I travel for photography, I do a lot of research to maximize the number of photo opportunities, so you will take advantage of that research too.
I also won't be giving lectures or doing critiques, but you can always ask me questions about photography, as I am always keen to help.
For this reason, you can expect the price to be much lower than on a normal photo tour, so this is a unique opportunity to go to Provence with me under conditions that won't be repeated. The definitive price will be set once we know how many participants we have, but it will certainly be very affordable.
I expect the trip to last about a week and to coincide with the peak of the lavender season, during the end of June or the beginning of July. We will spend at least one day driving around the lavender fields, but this trip is about much more than that.
The tour will probably start and end in Nice or Marseilles, depending on which is come convenient for people flying from overseas. Both cities have a well-connected international airport and also good train connections to Paris and Italy. From there, we will drive around using rented vehicles.
We will stay in nice hotels or bed&breakfasts. I will prepare a list of possible accommodations and we will choose them together.

Fill out the form below and I'll get back to you as soon as possible. By submitting the form, you incur no obligation whatsoever. Just do it quickly, because July is prime time for lavender spotting, so finding accommodations will become more difficult, the longer we wait.
